Events and customs

St. Bartholomew day
St. Bartholomew Day is one of the beautiful viticulture customs that is celebrated on St. Bartholomew Day - August 24, the day when a rattle is raised in the vineyards to drive away starlings and signal that the harvest is approaching. It is celebrated with friends in the vineyard with a party, a juicy bite and a drop of last year's wine.

After welcoming the guests with an appropriate toast from the host, the winemakers from Bilikum Winemakers and Winegrowers Association elect Vincilir and Pudar from among its members for one year, until the next Bartholomew Day. The member of the association who has shown the most effort during the year with regard to wine and vineyards is named Vincilir. Pudar is the name of the member of the association who "was at the cellar" the most times and thus guarded our gorica. A rattle and a scarecrow are set up, the priest blesses the vineyard. At the end, they put the rattle into operation and that it rubs with a wooden ratchet and scares birds away.
